I am delighted to create this blog on the utsavams conducted in Nagore for more than 100 years. Nagore is a small village located in Nagappatinam district of Tamil nadu. It is a holy place for both Hindus and Muslims. The abode of Naganathaswami is located in this place and it's famous for worshipping Raghu and perform parikaras for Raghu dosha.Nagore Darga has been popular for several years and worshipped by people of all religions.
This village had many agraharams in the 19th and 20th centururies and today it has diminished to a very few numbers. It was in the late 19th century, a great soul named "Sri Veerasamy Iyer" apportioned his house and carved a separate matam for his Lord Sri Rama and named this portion of his house as "Rama Mantram". Ever since he renovated and added Rama mantram to his house, he started conducting Radha kalyana utsavam and Seetha kalyana utsavam every year. It is believed that every utsavam was scheduled for about 10 days with many famous artists and bhagavathas participating in it. Eminent personalities in carnatic music field visited this place and received the grace of Lord Sri Rama.
For the past few decades, our beloved mama "Sri Krishnamoorthy" has been upholding the greatest task of conducting the utsavam twice in a year. Almost all his kith and kins, his friends and entire bhakta janas in and around Nagore participate and contribute in this wonderful utsavam every year. He is supported greatly by our mami "Srimathi Radha Krishnamurthy", fondly called as "manni" by everyone. Sri Krishnamurthy (mama), has been doing a commendable job by inviting bhagavathas from various places to make every utsavam a grand event. He takes so much care for the bhagavathas and shows highest level of hospitality to everyone who attends this rare utsavam. Only very few matams in India could boast of conducting utsavams for more than 100 years. Nagore utsavam is on the top of this list and has the pride of Sri Kanchi Mahaperiyaval visiting it once sometime in the 20th century. Recently, Sri Kanchi Jayendra Saraswathy swamigal also visited this place and blessed the bhaktas.
One important feature of the Nagore utsavams is that there is no compromise on the "Sampradayam" and "Paddathi" whatsoever. Radha kalyanam, conducted sometime around Jan or Feb every year, is a 4 day event which starts on a Friday with Astapadhi and ends on a Monday with Anjaneya utsavam. Similarly, Seetha kalyanam is conducted between Friday and Monday, sometime around the month of May every year. However, additionally "Vasantha kelikai - Pavvalimbu" utsavam is conducted on the sunday after the Seetha kalyanam gets over. Many contemperory eminent bhagavathas such as Udayalur kalyanarama bhagavathar and Kovai Jayarama bhagavathar have visitied and performed in Nagore matam ("Rama mantram"). Our most beloved and great "Brahmasri Raju Bhagavathar" has been performing in the utsavams for many years now in the matam and leading all bhaktas to the path of devotion and salvation.
The divinity of the matam is getting enhanced day by day due to the dedication and sincereity of the folks maintaining this holy matam and those who conduct regular bhajans and satsang almost every week.
Let us pray Lord Rama to bestow us strength, health, unity, bhakti and vision to conduct these utsavams for many more 100 years to come.
